let's get together, yeah yeah yeah!

This afternoon we ventured out to the Great Minnesota Get-together (also known as the Minnesota State Fair)! We met up with my parents to enjoy this must-experience Minnesota tradition.

Our outing can be separated into two parts.

Part I: FOOD (Because, well, it is the main reason we even go to the fair.)

Camille enjoyed her very first Nutella and banana filled crepe. Seriously, can dinner get any better for a toddler?

I dined on a tasty strawberry and creme filled scone. Not your typical fair food, I know, but it looked really yummy. Plus we had a coupon for a free drink with scone purchase!

All of us, Camille included, enjoyed our absolute State Fair favorite: Australian battered potatos. Mmmmmm. I'm not ashamed to admit that last year Aaron and I had a small window of free time one evening during the fair and drove to St. Paul, parked, hopped on the shuttle, and arrived at the fair simply for these battered potatos. That's right folks, we walked into the fair, ordered our food, sat down and ate it, and left. It took us longer to get there and get home than we actually spent at the fair. That's how much we love these things.

Aaron also enjoyed garlic french fries. I sat many feet away from him while he was eating these, and was still so overcome by the garlic smell that I nearly fell of the bench I was on.

Part II: Animals

This is the first year we've really enjoyed seeing the animals at the State Fair. We've just never really been that interested. But Camille? She loves animals and didn't even want to see anything else. We stopped in at the Miracle of Birth barn first. Unfortunately, since it's only the second day of the fair there weren't many baby animals. Just lots of very pregnant animals. But Camille was able to get up close and personal with a newborn lamb. And, if my memory serves me correctly (yes, I realize this was just hours ago), I believe she was also able to touch a newborn piglet.

We also visited the sheep. But honestly, these weren't as exciting as the baby sheep.

Camille did find the horses pretty exciting. She and Aaron were peering into the stall trying to see what was in there when up popped a colt's face right up next to theirs. She thought that was really funny!

Even though we were only there for a few hours, Camille was (and I am) definitely tuckered out. She was able to stay awake on the shuttle ride to the car, but crashed on the way home. And boy did she crash hard. She didn't move a muscle when we got home and I laid her in her crib. She's got to let the little body recharge for tomorrow.

Because, you know, she wakes up at 6:30 AM. Even on Saturdays.

We went to the fair today too! What nice cool weather, yet some sun too - a perfect fair day! I enjoyed my favorite: pork chop on a stick. I wouldn't even say that I love pork chops that much, but something about having one at the fair is just soooo goood. Glad you guys had such a good time!
